The study of rural and urban population showed that heart disease risk factors like smoking and physical activity are not desirable while high blood pressure and diabetes are increasing, said Health Vice-Chancellor of Bushehr University of medical sciences.
World Heart Day is to remind the fact that change in lifestyle can reduce cardiovascular diseases and it is a part of an international campaign to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention, added Dr. Khajeian.
Smoking, unhealthy diets and not having physical activity are the most common risk factors in heart diseases and nearly 80 % of death can be reduced by controlling these risk factors, said Dr. Khajeian.
There are some activities that people can easily do to prevent themselves from being affected by heart diseases, they can simply pay attention to their physical activity during the day, use stairs instead of elevator and take a walk, continued Dr. Khajeian.
Diets containing fruits and vegetables, grains, proteins, sea foods and low fat foods can also keep the heart disease and stroke away, Said Dr. Khajeian.
World Heart Day is globally observed on September 29 to inform people about cardiovascular diseases, which are the biggest cause of death worldwide. The event also aims to promote preventative measures that reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
